LONG BEACH, CALIF. (APRIL 27, 2022) — Long Beach Water is fully aware of the outdoor watering restrictions adopted yesterday by the Metropolitan Water District, the agency that supplies imported water to much of Southern California, including Long Beach.
The most stringent restriction passed by MWD — limiting outdoor watering to only one day per week — is focused on those portions of Los Angeles, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties served by MWD that are heavily reliant on the severely restricted State Water Project, which brings water from Northern California.
Long Beach is not directly impacted by MWD’s restriction, as we also have access to MWD’s less restricted water supplies imported from the Colorado River, along with our own local groundwater supplies.
Long Beach Water, with strong support from our community, is a longstanding leader in conservation and we all must continue to do our part to conserve as California faces unprecedented drought.
Our Board of Water Commissioners is set to discuss additional community conservation options at its next meeting in our ongoing effort to align with Gov. Newsom’s call for all California cities to save water.
