Long Beach Water Hires Diana Tang as Deputy General Manager

Long Beach, California – Today, the Long Beach Water Department announced Diana Tang will join the City’s Water Department as Deputy General Manager.
“We are pleased to welcome Diana onboard,” says President of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners, Robert Shannon. “Based on her excellent past service with the City, we are confident Diana will complement the already outstanding staff of the Water Department.”
Diana is a 20-year veteran with the City of Long Beach, serving most recently, as Chief of Staff to Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. She has a strong history of leveraging partnerships across state, federal and local governments to bring resources to her community. During the pandemic, she drew upon those skills to support our City’s leadership, community-based organizations, businesses and labor organizations in our COVID-19 response and recovery. The $250 million Long Beach Recovery Act program is the largest one-time infusion of federal funding the City has ever received to support economic recovery efforts.
“The last two years have brought some of the most difficult challenges our City has faced in a generation,” says Mayor Robert Garcia. “Diana was there every step of the way, helping to guide, organize and support our COVID-19 response. She’s been extremely committed to the job and our community since day one, and I’m incredibly supportive of this next step in her and our City’s future.”
Prior to joining Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, Diana worked directly for the City Manager as our City’s Manager of Government Affairs and Communications. In that capacity, she directly engaged in public policy development with legislators and regulatory agencies in Washington D.C., Sacramento and Los Angeles County on behalf of the City. She also oversaw print, digital and social media communications in this role.
With the federal government committing billions of new dollars to improve our nation’s water quality and water infrastructure, Diana’s experience with aligning federal, state and county public policies, and funding mechanisms with local priorities will serve the Long Beach Water Department’s customers well. Her administrative and legislative experience will be critical to advancing the Water Department’s work to improve local water systems.
Diana’s appointment is effective Saturday, April 2.
Ms. Tang has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the California State University, Long Beach.
