Bond would fund water-related projects to ensure long-term water supply reliability
Long Beach, California – The Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners unanimously supported Proposition 3 last week during their regularly scheduled Board meeting. Proposition 3 is an $8.8 billion water bond that will be on California’s November 6 General Election ballot. Proposition 3 would provide funding for improvements to water supplies across the state covering a variety of water-related projects.
The measure, also called the Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018, would provide bond funding for projects in key categories, such as:
“We support this proposition that will help fund projects to secure our long-term water supply reliability for our state and our city,” said Robert Shannon, president of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners. “This bond will provide the needed dollars to overcome some of our most pressing water supply challenges, such as climate change, aging infrastructure, threat of natural disasters and population growth.”
This bond helps to meet the goals of the California Water Action Plan by providing funding for safe drinking water, conservation, and sustainable groundwater management, among other aspects.
