Long Beach, CA – In a recent 2024 U.S. Water Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study conducted by J.D. Power, Long Beach Utilities (LBU) was once again recognized as a top-rated water utility by Long Beach customers. Of 92 utility agencies that deliver water in the United States and that serve more than 400,000 customers, Long Beach Utilities made the top ten highest-ranked agencies list for J.D. Power’s West Midsize category.

“Long Beach Utilities strives to deliver safe, clean drinking water at an affordable price with the best customer service to each and every resident in Long Beach,” says Christopher Garner, General Manager of Long Beach Utilities. “Our 500-employee workforce is one of the best in the nation, and we are proud to be recognized by J.D. Power for another year in a row.”

The J.D. Power survey results are reported for eight geographic regions in two size categories: Midwest Large; Midwest Midsize; Northeast Large; Northeast Midsize; South Large; South Midsize; West Large; and West Midsize. This year’s study is based on the responses of 32,833 residential water utility customers and was conducted from June 2023 through March 2024. The customer satisfaction score is based on six main factors:

  • Delivery: measuring customers’ level of trust
  • Price: assessing total monthly costs
  • Billing and Payment: ranking the ease of doing business
  • Conservation: available residential programs
  • Communications: determining the number of digital channels
  • Customer Service: ability to resolve problems or complaints

Long Beach Utilities ranked number ten for similar sized utility agencies in the Western region. Every day, Long Beach Utilities treats 32 million gallons of drinking water at the Long Beach Groundwater Treatment Plant (GWTP) and distributes this water after blending with imported water, to 90,000 households and businesses throughout the City of Long Beach. The GWTP also hosts a California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation as a Certified Water Quality Laboratory, which performs 60,000 to 70,000 water quality testing to ensure the high quality of the drinking water. For more information about the Utilities’ commitment to delivering safe drinking water and to read the latest Consumer Confidence Report, please visit LBUtilities.org/water.
