GINA RUSHING MAGUIRE

PRESIDENT, BOARD OF UTILITIES COMMISSIONERS

Gina Rushing Maguire was appointed to the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners, now the Board of Utilities Commissioners, in February 2022 by Mayor Robert Garcia.

She attended Cal State University, Long Beach, where she worked as a staff writer for the Forty-Niner campus newspaper and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.

Commissioner Maguire began her career as a public relations and marketing manager, working with a variety of business and technology companies. In 1992, she founded her own Long Beach area branding and marketing communications business, RHR Associates, Inc.

In 2001, she accepted an opportunity to lead the school/business turnaround of St. Anthony High School, her alma mater. She served as the high school’s first President for 20 years, until her retirement in 2021.

Beyond her professional career, Commissioner Maguire is a long-serving leader, mentor and volunteer within the Long Beach community. She is a founder of Leadership Long Beach, an established nonprofit organization focused on the development of emerging leaders within the City of Long Beach. She continues to serve as a member of the Honorary Board of Governors.

Commissioner Maguire has been a member of The Junior League of Long Beach since 1982, serving as the organization’s first full-time working President. In 1986, she helped develop and launch a new Junior League national model project, Woman to Woman, and was instrumental in founding the new Woman to Woman Recovery Center in Long Beach.

In March 2021, Commissioner Maguire was awarded The Key to the City by Mayor Garcia in honor of her service, leadership and community contribution.
