WHAT TO SUBMIT:
- Complete Application form through Long Beach Utilities Department (LBUD) Development Portal, at the following link

- A copy of your fire sprinkler and/or fire underground plans approved by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD)

For schools, colleges, and universities, please submit a copy of the fire sprinkler plans approved by the State Fire Marshal.
- Installation design drawing that includes the proposed point of connection to the City’s existing potable water system and proposed type of backflow prevention device to be reviewed and approved by the Long Beach Utilities Department. Please refer to the Fireline Sample Drawing(PDF, 381KB).
- Material submittal package for review and approval based on this Fireline Material Submittal(PDF, 510KB).
- Excavation permit issued by the Long Beach Public Works Department (LBPW). Approved copy of Item 3 above is required for the excavation permit application. Please contact LBPW for permit application requirements (e.g. contractor license ‐ Class A or C‐34, liability insurance, city business license number, fees, etc.).

- Easement shall be granted to LB Utilities for the proposed location of the backflow prevention device. Easement process will be handled by LBPW.

DEPOSIT REQUIREMENT:
Prepare an initial check for $10,000 payable to "Long Beach Utilities Department" to cover charges for plan checking, inspection, administrative work, and other field work by LBUD Operations crews as needed. Final total charges will be based on actual cost incurred. Unused amount will be refunded or additional charges will be billed to you. Final accounting will not be performed and any unused funds will not be refunded until after the As-built Drawing is submitted to and approved by LBUD.
LEAD TIME & OTHER INFORMATION
- Allow 3-4 weeks for review of the first plan check, and 1- 2 weeks for subsequent plan check reviews.
- Schedule a preconstruction meeting between your contractor and LBUD. Please schedule at least 5 business days in advance.
- Once all required documents are submitted and approved, a Notice to Proceed letter will be issued to your contractor for construction.
- Your contractor shall provide a minimum of 48-hour notice prior to start of work for inspection. Contact LBUD Inspection at (562)244-9334.
- After the fire service installation is completed and the As-built drawing is approved, backflow prevention device certification and device turn on can be scheduled with LBUD Meter Shop. Allow 1 – 2 weeks from the request date.
